Alaska Aces News Release
Wes Goldie tied the record for the most career ECHL goals with the game-winning tally on Saturday night to lead the Alaska Aces to a 4-1 win over the Colorado Eagles. The Aces closed the home portion of their season schedule in front of a standing room only, sold out crowd of 6,599 at Sullivan Arena to finish the year with 60 points in 36 games at home. The home point total is the second most in franchise history for the Aces, behind 62 posted by the 2005-2006 club. The victory extended Alaska's lead in the Mountain Division to 17 points over the Eagles, and their Western Conference lead to five points over Ontario and four points over Las Vegas. Alaska improved to 39-15-9, on the season. The Aces begin a season ending, nine-game road trip in Colorado on Wednesday at 5:05pm AKT. They will return back home for the postseason in April. For the second straight night Colorado scored the first goal of the game. Aaron Slattengren scored 1:44 into the game to give Colorado a 1-0 lead. However, for the second straight night, the Aces held the Eagles at bay following the opening goal, and took control of the game. Kane Lafranchise scored on a backhand from the bottom of the right circle that banked off of Colorado goaltender Kyle Jones and into the net behind him at 5:48. The Aces took their first lead on Goldie's record-tying goal. At 16:21 Goldie took a feed from the corner from Nick Mazzolini for his 33rd goal of the season, and 368th all-time in the ECHL, moving him into a tie with Rod Taylor for the all-time record. The Aces took the 2-1 lead into the locker room after one period.
The Aces added to their lead in the second period. Dan Kissel got his career-high 32nd of the year at 8:10 to make it 3-1, and then Zach Harrison increased the lead to 4-1 at 14:05. Following the goal, Jones was pulled for Andrew Penner. Throughout the remainder of the game, the sellout crowd urged Goldie to break the record on home ice. Late in the third period, they began to chant Goldie's name and cheer each time he touched the puck. However, neither team added a goal in the final frame, and Alaska held on for the 4-1 victory. The Aces closed with an incredible 29-5-2 record on home ice.
James Reid (3-1-1) earned the win, making 18 saves on 19 shots. Kyle Jones (27-13-4) took the loss, stopping 14 of 18 shots. Penner stopped nine saves on as many shots while not figuring into the decision. The Aces power play went 1-5, while the Eagles went 0-3. The Aces outshot the Eagles 27-19 in the game.
