(Wheeling, WV)- The Nailers scored three first period goals and beat Toledo 5-0 today in Wheeling. Toledo is 26-30-2-4 on the season and 12-15-2-1 away from home.

Toledo came out with a fast start, outshooting the Nailers 5-3 in the first seven minutes. Wheeling would take control from there outshooting the Walleye 8-0 and scoring three times. Wheeling led 3-0 after the first period. Things got very physical as both Mike Thomas and Phil Rauch found themselves involved in altercations.

"I thought we came out with the intensity needed to come away with a win," said Head Coach Nick Vitucci. "We had a couple of bad breaks that went against us and that got Wheeling started. We couldn't reverse that once it got going."

The Nailers would continue the scoring in the second period as Ben Farrer would collect a shorthanded goal at 9:25 of the period. The Nailers held Toledo to just 11 shots through two periods. Wheeling would collect one more goal in the third period to finish the game.

Walleye Notes: Walleye goaltender Alec Richards finished with 33 saves and has a record of 6-6-0-1 on the season. It was the sixth time this season that Toledo has been scoreless. The Toledo Walleye will return home on March 18th to host the Kalamazoo Wings. That is the third annual St. Cat Trick's Day Celebration presented by the Blarney Irish Pub. It is also "Faith and Family" night with a pregame concert by the band New Method. For more information and get tickets call 419-725-9255 or visit www.toledowalleye.com.
