Goldie and Young nominated for Ironman Award

Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, is pleased to announce that the Professional Hockey Players' Association (PHPA) has nominated team leading scorer Wes Goldie and rookie defenseman Seamus (pron: SHAY-mus) Young for the 2007 InterContinental Hotels Group Ironman Award.

The ICHG Ironman Award is presented annually to a PHPA Member playing in the American Hockey League and a Member playing in the ECHL, respectively, who has participated in each of his Club's regular season games and has contributed both offensively and defensively throughout the 2006-07 regular season. Nominations are based upon individual player performance, with primary consideration placed on games played, points, and plus/minus.

Both Goldie and Young played in all 72 games of the 2006-07 regular season. This was their first season with the Salmon Kings.

Goldie, the 6-foot-1, 185-pound veteran right winger earned 74 points (41 goals, 33 assists). He tallied point streaks of three games or more on seven different occasions, and posted a hat trick and four-point night on January 3rd versus the Long Beach Ice Dogs. He led the National Conference in goals (second in the ECHL), placed 13th in the ECHL in scoring, and tied for first in ECHL for shorthanded goals (7) and game-winning goals (8). The native of London, ON carries the club record for most goals and points in a season.

Young, the 6-foot-2, 205-pound Princeton graduate earned 22 points (9 goals, 12 assists). He notched four multi-point games and three game-winning goals. He placed third in the National Conference in rookie defensemen scoring. The native of Dedham, MA is the only American-born member on the team, and holds the club record for highest plus/minus in one game (+5).

A committee comprised of PHPA officials will announce the ICHG Ironman Award winner in early June.
