Golden State Valkyries News Release
OAKLAND, Calif. - The Golden State Valkyries and CBS Bay Area have announced the local television broadcast schedule and on-air talent for the 2025 season, which includes Valkyries games airing on KPIX (channel 5) or KPIX+ (channel 44, cable 12) in the Bay Area. Additionally, fans in Sacramento can watch Valkyries games on KMAX (channel 31) or KOVR (channel 13).
Jacob Tobey will serve as the primary play-by-play, alongside color analyst Morgan Ragan. Additionally, Derek Clark will call select games as play-by-play. In the studio, KPIX Sports Director Vern Glenn will host the pregame, halftime and postgame shows, with analyst Zena Keita. Layshia Clarendon, who enjoyed an 11-year WNBA career, and Matt Lively, KPIX sports anchor, will both join the studio broadcast team for select games.
A graduate of Suffolk University, Tobey serves as the television play-by-play announcer for the San Antonio Spurs. Tobey's television work includes play-by-play duties for Fox Sports and Pac-12 Networks, as well as the Mountain West Conference and the NBA G League. Tobey got his start with KJRH-TV, the NBC affiliate in Tulsa, Oklahoma as a weekend sports anchor where he covered the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Ragan most recently served as the pregame and postgame host for the Sacramento Kings on NBC Sports California, and as the color analyst of the NBA G League's Stockton Kings. Ragan brings over 10 years of broadcasting experience to the Valkyries, having worked basketball games on ESPN and NBA TV, and currently co-hosts "The Deuce & Mo Podcast." As a player, Ragan suited up for Sierra College where she led the team to the California State Championships and played in the San Francisco Pro-Am League.
Clark just finished his third season of play-by-play for Fox Sports, calling college basketball for the Mountain West Conference. Clark has been the longtime radio voice of UC Santa Barbara on KCSB-FM, calling over 70 Gaucho basketball games, including two Big West Tournaments, since 2015. A graduate of UC Santa Barbara, Clark was named the 2016 Male Broadcaster of the Year by KCSB-FM and previously worked as a news writer for KUSI television in Southern California.
Glenn is the Sports Director at KPIX-TV and KPIX+. Since joining KPIX in 2012, Vern has earned five Emmy Awards for Best Sportscaster and was inducted into the SF/NorCal Silver Circle Hall of Fame in 2020. Known as "Mr. Involvement" during his time at KRON 4 News (1990-2012), Vern gained recognition for immersing himself in his feature stories, from bungee jumping to playing with the 49ers. His reporting experience includes covering the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney and creating memorable segments with Bay Area sports icons like Chris Mullin.
Originally from Paris, France, Keita discovered sports as a way to adapt to life in North Carolina and find her voice. She played basketball at Yale University before earning a Masters from Wake Forest School of Business. Her career in sports partnerships included roles with the Miami Dolphins, Golden State Warriors, and The Athletic, where she developed her passion for sports media. In 2024, Zena moved into full-time broadcasting, hosting shows for The Athletic and serving as an analyst for NBC Sports Bay Area covering the Warriors. She now brings her expertise to the Golden State Valkyries broadcast team.
A Bay Area women's basketball icon, Clarendon led California to its first-ever Final Four in 2013 and ranks fifth in Golden Bears history in scoring with 1,821 career points. Clarendon was selected ninth overall in the 2013 WNBA draft before an 11-year playing career, earning All-Star honors in 2017, and was the league's first openly transgender and nonbinary player. Clarendon got their broadcasting start with Pac-12 Networks where they served as a sideline reporter for Pac-12 basketball.
Lively joined the KPIX team in 2023, where he reports on the rich Bay Area sports scene. He attended Arizona State and the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism. Before joining KPIX, he covered Final Fours, Sugar Bowls, Big 12 Championships, and high school athletics in two previous markets.
The Valkyries will welcome the Los Angeles Sparks to Chase Center on May 16 at 7 p.m. to open the 2025 regular season. Single game tickets, in addition to season tickets and group tickets, are available now by visiting valkyries.com. The team's full schedule can be viewed at valkyries.com.
