ATLANTA, GA - May 9, 2006 - Atlanta Vision owners, Quentin and Akilah Townsend, are pleased to announce "A New Vision for You" summer program through their 501c(3) non-profit organization, Vision of Excellence. GoGirlGo! Atlanta has awarded a grant for "A New Vision for You" program designed to promote health and physical activity in girls. GoGirlGo! Atlanta, a partnership among the Atlanta Women's Foundation, the Women's Sports Foundation, and Kaiser Permanente, has generously provided support for this program. "We are very thankful for this grant and excited about the partnership to build healthier communities," states Akilah Townsend, "We know there is a need and expect full participation in our first year of this wonderful program."
"A New Vision for You" is a summer program primarily targeted for overweight young girls ages 8 to 13 of DeKalb and Gwinnett County. The purpose of the program is to expose girls to exercise through dance, encourage healthy lifestyle choices, promote positive self-esteem, provide a foundation for healthy activities, and utilize the GoGirlGo! GoGirlGo! features true-life stories from champion athletes like Brandi Chastain, Mia Hamm, Lisa Fernandez, Mary Riddell, Jennifer Rodriguez and Tamika Catchings.
The staff for "A New Vision for You" will include the positive and talented young women of the Atlanta Vision Dance Team. These program instructors are experienced in teaching dance, aerobics, fitness, and educating youth. Participants will meet once a week from 7:30am to 4:30pm for 10 weeks from June through August. Program participation is limited to 30 girls and will require a $20 non-refundable processing fee with a completed application, transportation by parents/guardians, a full commitment and a bag lunch.
