Brooklyn Aviators News Release

Brooklyn, NY- The New York Aviators returned home Friday night and earned their 18th consecutive victory with a 4-1 win over the Cape Cod Barons by a score of 4-1 in Federal Hockey League action.

John Goffredo notched a hat trick while Matthew Puntureri added a goal of his own to lead the A's to yet another victory. Goffredo continues to have his way with the Baron's, ending his night with his 24th goal of the year, 13 of them coming against Cape Cod.

The Barons struck first with a goal from Aaron Boyer at 12:53, his team leading 18th on the year. Cape Cod controlled the puck for a majority of the 1st period, but was unable to add to their early one goal lead even with the help of a power play opportunity later in the frame. It would cost them, as the Aviator's own leading scorer Puntureri scored a breakaway goal, his 26th of the season, with just over a minute to go and tied the scoring at 1-1 after the first 20 minutes of play.

The story of the 2nd period looked like it was going to be both teams ability to successfully kill their opponent's power play opportunities. The Barons again failed to take advantage of their power play opportunity early in the period. The Aviators also came up empty handed on their two overlapping power plays during the period, which gave them a 5-3 man advantage for almost a full minute. The third time was the charm for New York when they were given a one-man advantage for a full 5 minutes after Cape Cod's Aaron Boyer was whistled for a major penalty. During that span, Goffredo found the back of the net twice in 40 seconds to give New York a 3-1 lead heading into the final period.

The third period was dominated by the A's new goaltender John Dorman, who turned away all shots on goal by the visiting Barons. Goffredo added his 3rd and final goal to add even more insurance to New York's lead. Dorman picked up his first FHL win stopping 23 shots, while Baron's goaltender Chris Testa takes the loss, dropping him to 2-10-0 on the year.

Cape Cod is now winless in their last 14 games and the loss brings their overall season record to 10-19-4. New York leads the season series 9-3.

The Aviators return to action on Saturday night as they take on the Akwesasne Warriors at the Aviator Sports and Events Center. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:35PM and great tickets are still on sale by logging onto www.newyorkaviators.com, or by calling 718-758-7580.
