Erie, Pennsylvania - With the first three-in-three of the season ahead for the Erie Otters this weekend, General Manager Dave Brown has announced the acquisition of a new member of the goaltending corps.

In exchange for a 6th Round Pick in the 2025 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection Draft, the Erie Otters acquire 18-year-old Windsor Spitfires goaltender Kyle Downey.

Downey, the 39thOverall Pick (first Goaltender) in the 2020 OHL Priority Selection Draft, has appeared in 11 games in his Major Junior career in Windsor with a 4.19 GAA, .857 SV%, going 4-3-1. The Caledon, ON native has played in 16 games for the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League's LaSalle Vipers the last two seasons, where he's attained a 2.85 GAA, .911 SV%, and an 8-5-1 record.

Measuring in at 6'2", 179 lbs., the left-handed netminder looks to make his mark in Erie.

"I'm extremely excited to be in Erie, and part of this organization." said Downey,"I'm a goaltender who can make a big save in the moments you need them to."

The second-year OHL Goaltender received high-acclaim from Otters GM Dave Brown.

"We are excited to further strengthen our goaltending department with the addition of Kyle Downey. Kyle was the first goalie selected in the 2020 OHL Priority Selection Draft for a reason, and we look forward to working alongside him so he and our organization can achieve our desired success." said Brown, "We are excited to see Kyle in an Otters uniform this Thursday."

Downey will wear #80 for the Erie Otters - the same number he wore in Windsor.

The Otters welcome Kyle to the Flagship City, and look forward to seeing his skills and abilities grow and develop with the organization - on and off the ice.

Following an overtime win at home on Saturday, Erie will get back to work on Thursday evening in St. Catharine's, ON to battle the Niagara IceDogs. The Otters then return home for Friday and Saturday to take on the Owen Sound Attack.
