Saugerties Stallions News Release
SAUGERTIES, N.Y. - Andres Auffant (Franklin Pierce) was on the mound for the Stallions, tossing 5 solid innings against Glens Falls and holding them to just 2 runs during his outing. In the bottom of the fifth, Saugerties took the lead 3-2 but the scoring would hardly end there.
In the top of the sixth inning, the Dragons posted five runs highlighted by a Colby Brouilette (Clarkson) three-run home run. They jumped out to a 7-3 lead but even that wouldn't be enough to silence the Stallions.
In the bottom half of the same inning, Saugerties tied it back up with three hits and two walks in the inning. Noah Berghammer (Minnesota) drove in two runs on a two-out single which ended up trying the game at seven.
Glens Falls continued the scoring in the seventh inning, plating three batters on just two hits, then extended their 10-7 lead to 13-7 in the top of the ninth inning when the first three batters of the inning all reached and scored.
Just when it seemed out of reach for the Stallions, they made it interesting in the bottom of the ninth inning. John Collins (Middlebury), who was the starting catcher for the Dragons, made a relief appearance in the ninth with a chance to close out the game.
Tyler Kelder (St. Bonaventure) walked in the first at bat of the inning and following him were the first two outs. The Dragons were just one out away when five straight walks and a single made the game a one-run contest before Glens Falls made a call to the bullpen.
Christian Grigas (Ithaca) came in to pitchh with runners on the corners and completed the save on the first pitch of the final at-bat of the game giving the Dragons a 13-12 win.
In total, Saugerties had nine hits and left 16 runners on base. The Dragons had 12 hits and stranded eight on base on the evening. Both teams had three errors on the night.
Glens Falls takes on Albany tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m. and the Stallions return to action tomorrow night at Oneonta. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. and you can stream it live on Facebook.
