Outfielder Todd Glaesmann, considered the key acquisition by the Arizona Diamondbacks in a multi-team MLB trade this past December, has announced his retirement from baseball and been placed on the voluntary retired list by the Diamondbacks.
Glaesmann, 23, was the third-round pick of the Tampa Bay Rays in the 2009 Major League Baseball amateur draft and through the end of the 2013 season, had played in 400 career minor league games with a career batting average of .252, 40 homers, and 176 RBI. In 2012, he was named by the Tampa Bay Raysas the organization's "Minor League Player of the Year."
The Woodway, TX resident spent the 2010 season as a member of the Princeton Rays and appeared in 62 games, hitting .233 (55-for-236) to go along with 17 doubles, 5 triples, 4 homers, and 24 RBI while also swiping 13 bases in 19 attempts.
This past December 13, following a 2013 season that saw him reach his highest level at AA Montgomery, he was swapped to the Diamondbacks as part of a trade that saw the Tampa Bay Rays obtain pitcher Heath Bell from the Diamondbacks, andcatcher Ryan Hanigan from the Reds.
