Cleveland Gladiators News Release
CLEVELAND - The Cleveland Gladiators will play the 2016 Arena Football League season as part of a new five-team American Conference alongside the Jacksonville Sharks, Orlando Predators, Philadelphia Soul and Tampa Bay Storm, the AFL announced on Friday. The newly-formed four-team National Conference will be comprised of the Arizona Rattlers, Los Angeles KISS and Portland Thunder, along with the defending ArenaBowl champions, the San Jose SaberCats.
Last season, the Gladiators finished second in the American Conference's East Division with an 8-10 overall record and a 3-3 mark in division play before falling to Philadelphia in the opening round of the AFL playoffs. In 2015, the Gladiators posted a combined 3-9 mark in the regular season and playoffs vs. their new conference rivals the Sharks, Predators, Soul and Storm.
The AFL also announced Friday that the 2016 free agent period will begin on Monday, November 2nd. All players that have yet to be assigned to a team, or are street free agents or rookies who did not have their options exercised, may sign with any AFL team at that time.
