Gladiators Sign Former Browns DL Mark Word

CLEVLEAND - The Cleveland Gladiators signed former Cleveland Browns defensive lineman MARK WORD today, the team announced. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Word (6-6, 290, Jacksonville State) originally signed with the Tampa Bay Storm in 2007, appearing in all 16 regular season games in '07, totaling 14.0 tackles (13 solo, two assists) and 2.0 sacks for 16 yards. He tied for the team lead with three fumble recoveries. He was waived by the team on March 5, 2008 at the end of training camp.

Word signed as a free agent with the Browns in 2001. He missed the 2001 season with a shoulder injury, and appeared in all 16 regular season games (two starts) in 2002. He totaled a team-high eight sacks and finished second on the team with 28 quarterback pressures. In 2003, he appeared in all 16 regular season games (two starts) and totaled 28 tackles and four sacks.
