
Gladiators sign additional five for 2005

LAS VEGAS, NV, October 7, 2004 â The Las Vegas Gladiators today announced that they have come to terms with five additional free agents, including one who played significant minutes in the NFL and two Arena Football League veterans. Signing today were WR/DBs Chris Canty, WR/LB Junior Lord, QB Brent Petrus and OL/DLs Jerry Montgomery and Reggie Hargrove. Per club policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.
"Today marks another step in our quest to bring an ArenaBowl championship to Las Vegas," said Gladiators head coach Ron James. "We have stocked piled our roster with skill and depth at every position and we expect that these players will contribute to our ultimate goal."
Canty (5'11", 190, Kansas State) spent four years playing in the NFL with the New England Patriots, Seattle Seahawks and the New Orleans Saints. Canty played in 58 games during his NFL tenure, after being selected in the first-round of the NFL draft by the Patriots in 1997, totaling four interceptions and 126 tackles.
Lord (6'2", 210, Guilford) comes to the Gladiators after spending the last three seasons with the Detroit Fury. In 2004, Lord totaled 46 receptions for 409 yards and 11 touchdowns. The four-year AFL veteran has 124 career receptions for 1,458 yards and 30 touchdowns with both the Fury and the Orlando Predators.
Petrus (6'4", 210, Cincinnati) spent the 2003 season as a back-up quarterback to Aaron Garcia for the New York Dragons. Petrus played in six games, including one start. In his lone start, Petrus completed 17-33 passes for 194 yards and three touchdowns in a game against the Tampa Bay Storm. Petrus spent time with the Carolina Rhinos of af2 in 2000, throwing for 965 yards and 13 touchdowns while rushing for 113 yards and 4 touchdowns.
Montgomery (6'3", 300, Iowa) played for the Quad City Steamwheelers of af2 in 2004 after a year with the Chicago Rush. In Quad Cities, Montgomery totaled one sack, 9.5 total tackles, two tackles for a loss, one forced fumble and one safety.
Hargrove (6'3", 280, Louisville) started the 2004 season with the Detroit Fury before signing with the BC Lions in the Canadian Football League (CFL). Prior to that, he spent two years in NFL training camps, with the St. Louis Rams (2003) and Seattle Seahawks (2002), before playing for Calgary of the CFL and Amsterdam of NFL Europe.
