Las Vegas Gladiators News Release

The Gladiators fell to the Los Angeles Avengers in a 59-37 loss on Sunday, May 6th at the Orleans Arena. This marks their eighth straight loss of the season, and drops their record to 1-9. Still unable to win at home, the Gladiators offense started out strong but was unable to hold on to their early lead.

Up 13-7, the Gladiators relinquished their lead in the second quarter, settling for a field goal, then fumbling after a long drive to the Avengers' one yard line on their next possession.

Gladiators QB Brian Jones completed 28 of 43 passes for 300 yards and three touchdowns. Running in two touchdowns himself. Jones currently leads the Gladiators in rushing touchdowns, scoring his fourth and fifth against Los Angeles. The receiving corps was led by WR Thabiti Davis, who finished the day with 13 receptions for 137 yards and two touchdowns. WR Travis LaTendresse caught eight passes for 89 yards and one touchdown in his first game since an early training camp injury. DB Scott Cunningham led the defense for the third week in a row, recording seven tackles on the day.

The Avengers totaled 307 offensive yards, led by Offensive player of the Game QB Sonny Cumbie. Cumbie completed 24 of 30 passes for 293 yards and six touchdowns. Iron Man of the Game WR Kevin Ingram had 13 receptions for 142 yards and three touchdowns.

Low scoring by the Gladiators in the second and third quarters allowed Los Angeles to gain a considerable lead. The Avengers outscored the Gladiators 35-10 in that time, making a fourth quarter comeback nearly impossible.
