Gladiators Goddesses join Las Vegas celebrities to host food drive

(October 24, 2006, Las Vegas, NV) Las Vegas Celebrities the Goddesses Dance Team (AFL Las Vegas Gladiators), media couple Heidi Hayes and Ted Pretty (KVVU FOX-5), TV & Film producers Don Lewis Barnhart (director, Saved by the Bell) & Skip Burrows (production specialists, Billboard Music Awards, Fear Factor) (MaxxaM Entertainment), author John Daly (REAL TV & HGTV), and columnist Joe Vassallo, CBP (LV Review Journal - H&G section, Paragon Pools), host a Food Drive to Benefit the Las Vegas Chapter Salvation Army Food Bank, at Smith's Food and Drug, 2211 N. Rampart in Summerlin, October 28, 2006, from 10am-4pm, as part of the national USA Weekend Magazine MAKE A DIFFERENCE DAY charity event.

Celebrity guests are scheduled to make personal appearances at the food drive periodically throughout the day, encouraging shoppers to buy an extra can of food for the food bank.

Salvation Army Director of Development and Marketing, Charles Desiderio notes, "The Salvation Army truly appreciates the work that Mary Vail and her colleagues do annually to help the less fortunate and the wonderful volunteers and donors who come together to "Make-A-Difference" day possible. We are blessed to have such great community supporters."

In addition, collaborative food drives will also be held through out the month by Kitchell Contractors - Las Vegas Division and by UNLV Kappa Omicron Chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity, in support of the campaign.

This is the 9th Make a Difference Day charity event organized by philanthropist Lady Mary Vail. Individuals, organizations and businesses are encouraged to hold in-house food drives and deliver their collections on Saturday, October 28, 2006 from 10am-4pm at Smith's Food & Drug on Rampart at Lake Mead in Summerlin.

Smith's Food & Drug, is proudly named as the host site for the food drive for the 8th year. In addition to providing the site Smith's also donates a large donation to the cause each year. Smith's Food & Drug has multiple locations throughout the Las Vegas community, www.smithsfoodanddrug.com

The AFL Las Vegas Gladiators Arena Football Team will begin their 5th season in Las Vegas in February 2007. As part of the food drive the community is asked to donate non-perishable foods and personal hygiene items that will be used to create food boxes to distribute to thousands of needy families every month.

FOOD BOX WISH LIST

The 8th annual Make a Difference Day food drive to benefit the Salvation Army Food Bank is looking for the following items to fill food boxes that are distributed to the homeless. A standard food box is based on a family of four for 1 week of rations; all items are based on availability. The Salvation Army does note that if the family has teenagers the rations do not usually last the full seven days. While these are the most desired items, the Salvation Army is accepting any donation of non-perishable foods and personal hygiene items as part of the food drive.

* Items are frequently not available or available in very limited quantities.

The Basic Food Box consists of the following items:

2 cans of vegetables 2 cans of fruit 2 cans of milk*

2 boxes of macaroni & cheese 2 boxes of breakfast food 2 cans of soup

2 boxes of dried soup mix 1 bag of rice or noodles 1 jar of peanut butter

2 cans of meat (or meat products-tuna, spam, chili, or processed meat)* 1 bag of dried beans

The Basic Food Box may also include the following special items for families with infants:

4 jars of baby food 1 box of baby formula* 1 bag of diapers*

Holiday themed foods are included in the Basic Food Box:

1 frozen turkey (or canned ham) 1 can of sweet potatoes (or yams) 1 can cranberry sauce
