Las Vegas Gladiators News Release
LAS VEGAS- The Gladiators were held scoreless until the third quarter in their 69-34 loss to the Orlando Predators, Sunday April 29 at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. The Gladiators suffered from penalties, fumbles and missed field goals that had them down 34-0 in the first half.
Seven penalties throughout the game, left the Gladiators unable to put together a successful drive in the first half. The defense consistently had problems holding the explosive Predators offense who scored, on almost every possesion. Gladiators' QB Brian Jones was sacked four times by the Orlando defense, losing a total of 25 yards.
Following the Gladiators' first score of the second half they tried to recover an onside kick in an attempt at a comeback. Instead, the kick landed in the stands, giving the Predators great field position at the Gladiators' nine yard line and an easy seven points by Iron-Man Player of the Game FB Marlon Moye-Moore.
QB Brian Jones finished the game with 324 yards, four passing and one rushing touchdown. The receiving corps was led by WR Joe Douglass, who had 13 catches for 170 yards and one touchdown. His 170 yards tops the Gladiators single game receiving yards this season.
Orlando QB Shane Stafford earned himself offensive player of the game completing 17 of 20 passes for 255 yards and six touchdowns.
The Gladiators made a final run in the fourth quarter, scoring 21 points with touchdowns by QB Brian Jones and WR Etu Molden. DB Earthwind Moreland contributed with an interception, leading to a touchdown by WR Joe Douglass.
