
Gladiators Announce Training Camp Roster

The Gwinnett Gladiators announced today their training camp roster for the 2009-10 season. The Gladiators will have a total of 21 players in camp including 11 forwards, 8 defensemen and two goaltenders. The Gladiators' training camp will take place in Duluth, Georgia with on-ice sessions at the Duluth Ice Forum and the Arena at Gwinnett Center. The Gladiators will travel to Estero, Florida to play two preseason games against the Florida Everblades on Friday, October 9 and Saturday, October 10.
This year's training camp roster of 21 includes 9 players who have previously skated for Gwinnett; seven were with the Gladiators last season. There are eight rookies and one veteran on the roster.
There are six U.S.-born players and 15 Canadian-born players on the roster and none from overseas. The average age is about 24.5 years old with an age range of 22-28.
Unsigned players attending this year's training camp include defenseman Jamie Fritsch, forward John Hewko and goaltender Chad Collins.
Jamie Fritsch played four years with the University of New Hampshire amassing 39 points on 11 goals and 28 assists. Following his senior year at New Hampshire, he signed with the NHL's Philadelphia Flyers on an amateur tryout and appeared in one game on April 12, recording no points and no penalty minutes and was +1 for the game.
John Hewko played in 13 games for the Valley Forge Freedom of the now defunct Mid-Atlantic Hockey League during the 2007-08 season posting 13 points on five goals and eight assists. He earned an amateur tryout with the AHL's Hamilton Bulldogs last season and comes to the Gladiators on a professional tryout.
Chad Collins, a 5'8" goaltender from Guelph, Ontario, comes to camp also on a professional tryout. He has seen stints with teams in the Southern Professional Hockey League and ECHL since the 2004-05 season. His professional debut came with the Fayetteville FireAntz of the SPHL in 2004-05 season, where he appeared in 40 games, compiling a 25-13 record with a 2.48 GAA and a .922 save percentage and later signed with the ECHL's Augusta Lynx. Collins appeared in four games with the Gladiators during the 2005-06 season, where he compiled an unbeaten record of 2-0-1. Collins has had stints with Augusta, Toledo, Dayton, Gwinnett, and Cincinnati of the ECHL in addition to parts of five seasons with the SPHL's Fayetteville. In five professional seasons, Collins has a record of 100-63-19 with a 3.39 goals against average and .894 save percentage.
The first on-ice sessions begin Friday, October 2 at 12:10 PM at the Duluth Ice Forum. Training camp continues for two weeks, concluding Friday, October 16.

The Gladiators open their 7th season in the ECHL on Saturday, October 17th and Sunday, October 18th against the Wheeling Nailers. The Gladiators are the AA affiliate of the Atlanta Thrashers and Columbus Blue Jackets and play all home games at the 11,355-seat Arena at Gwinnett Center, located just off I-85 on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth.
