Rochester Knighthawks News Release

This weekend, the Rochester Knighthawks will join several local sports teams in support of the American Red Cross' Rochester Sports Challenge blood drive. On Saturday, March 31st, fans can donate blood from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Radisson Riverside Hotel. The start of the blood drive precedes the Knighthawks' afternoon contest against the Colorado Mammoth at 1:05 p.m. at The Blue Cross Arena.

The Knighthawks are encouraging their fans to donate blood in this friendly competition with fans of the Rochester Americans hockey team and Razorsharks basketball team. The Knighthawks will have their mascot and dance team members at the Radisson from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. in the Genesee Suites on the second level. The first 25 Knighthawks' fans will also receive a ticket voucher to a future K-Hawks game.

"The Knighthawks are proud to 'assist' another great organization in the Red Cross," said Knighthawks President Lewis Staats. "What a great way to spend an afternoon downtown by supporting a local charity and then cheering on Knighthawks at The Blue Cross Arena."

The Knighthawks will host the West-Division leading Colorado Mammoth on Saturday, March 31st at 1:05 p.m. at The Blue Cross Arena. The first 3,000 fans will receive Knighthawks light-up keychains. The game is sponsored by Ricoh. After the game, the team will host Kids Fest at Total Sports Experience starting at 4:00 p.m. Fans can meet the players, dance team and mascot, R. Thunder. The event features inflatables, laser tag, face painters and air brush tattoos from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.

The American Red Cross has been a primary supplier of lifesaving blood products in the United States for more than 50 years. Each day, the New York-Penn Region needs to collect on average 1,200 units of blood to maintain a sufficient blood supply. Monroe County needs roughly 3,800 units a month to meet the needs of area patients. A blood donation may help save up to three lives and it only takes about an hour of time.
