Gill leads Knighthawks over Frenzy

January 31, 2005 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Maryland NightHawks News Release

North Dartmouth, MA. Sharp shooting and an effective fast-break game was too much for the Boston Frenzy as the Maryland Nighthawks defeated the home team 128-113 in front of a raucous crowd. The Nighthawks were led by Randy "White Chocolate" Gill who scored 26 points and dished out 8 assists. Gill shot an impressive 7-15 from 3-point land. Gill was not the only guard who did damage as Jermaine Medley, who had missed the previous four games with an injury, came up big with 6-3 pointers of his own enroute to a 20 point performance and Brian Chase also ignited the charge with 22 points. Altogether, the three Maryland guards combined for 68 points, 14 assists and 53% shooting from 3 point land.

The game was fast paced through with Maryland taking the lead 28-26 after the first period. The Nighthawks then jumped out to a 15 point lead midway through the second period. The Frenzy closed the deficit to 8 points at halftime thanks to the strong play of Marcus Wills, who finished the game with 27 points.

The game marked the second time that the Nighthawks faced the Frenzy with former NBA star Joe "Jellybean" Bryant in the lineup for Boston. The well known player/coach logged 46 minutes and scored 14 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. His valiant effort was not enough to slow down the Nighthawks as Maryland continued its fast paced play and extended the lead to 12 points after the third period and continued the damage in the fourth with a 34 point effort. "I am happy with this effort as we moved the ball around better and found good, high percentage shots. It's especially satisfying when you have a balance effort," explained Coach Brad Melton.
