
Gibson's Finest CFL Players of the Month August

Toronto, ON - (September 2, 2009) - Fred Reid, Stevie Baggs, Justin Medlock and Matthieu Proulx were named the Gibson's Finest CFL Players of the Month for August the Canadian Football League announced today.
The four players were chosen by a panel of judges that includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde, now of TSN, and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.
Gibson's Finest CFL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE MONTH
RB - Fred Reid - Winnipeg Blue Bombers
Highlights / Key Stats:
Fred Reid had an impressive month for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in August, leading the team in rushing yards with 476 on 53 carries and ran for four touchdowns.
Reid had the game of his career on August 21 in a matchup with BC Lions where he set a Blue Bombers record for rushing yards in a game. Reid ran for 260 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries in the Bombers' victory.
Reid's 260 rushing yards eclipsed the previous Bombers' record of 249 yards set by Blaise Bryant 15 years ago and is the third most in CFL history. Only George Reed who rushed for 268 yards in 1965 and Ron Stewart who ran for 287 yards in 1960 had more rushing yards in a single game.
Through the first two months of the season, Reid leads the CFL in combined yards with 1390 and rushing yards with 795, over 100 yards more than Avon Cobourne who sits second in the category.

Gibson's Finest CFL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE MONTH
DE - Stevie Baggs - Saskatchewan Roughriders
Highlights / Key Stats:
Stevie Baggs was huge in anchoring the Roughriders' defence in August, as he totaled 13 tackles, four quarterback sacks, one forced fumble, one knockdown, and one special teams tackle.
Arguably his best game of the month came on August 21 against the first place Montreal Alouettes. Baggs compiled 10 tackles, one special teams tackle, two quarterback sacks, and one forced fumble in the 34-25 loss.
Baggs finished the first two months of the season tied for the league lead in sacks with seven, and forced fumbles with three.

Gibson's Finest CFL SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE MONTH
P/K - Justin Medlock - Toronto Argonauts
Highlights / Key Stats:
Justin Medlock continued his impressive play in the month of August for the Argonauts, as he was nine for nine on field goals in the three games played. He was also three for three on convert attempts, compiled 1053 yards on 26 punts for an average of 40.5 yards per punt, and 933 yards on 16 kickoffs for the month.
In a week seven game against the BC Lions, Medlock had one of the most impressive performances by any special teams player this season as he kicked a perfect seven for seven field goals in the narrow loss. The mark tied him with former kicker Lance Chomyc for the most field goals in a single game by an Argonaut.
Through the first two months of the season, Medlock is 20 of 21 in field goals, an impressive 95.2%, good for second overall in the league.

Gibson's Finest CFL CANADIAN PLAYER OF THE MONTH
S - Matthieu Proulx - Montreal Alouettes
Highlights / Key Stats:
Matthieu Proulx has been an integral part of the Alouettes' success this season as he has helped keep the Alouettes in first place overall and a perfect 3-0 in August. For the month, Proulx compiled seven tackles, five special teams tackles, four interceptions, one knockdown and one fumble recovery.
In a week eight matchup with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, Proulx had a great game as he collected four tackles, two special teams tackles and two interceptions in the Alouettes' victory.
Through the first two months of the season, Proulx is tied for second in the CFL with four interceptions, all coming in August.
