COLUMBUS, GA, March 1 --- Columbus Lions head coach Jason Gibson commented today on the tragic death of Javan Camon, the Daytona Beach Thunder defensive back who died from injuries suffered in a violent collision with about ten minutes left in Monday night's World Indoor Football League game at the Ocean Center.
"Javan was not only a great football player, but a great young man," said Gibson. "Our hearts and prayers go out to his family and the Daytona community. This was the most tragic incident I have ever witnessed in sports."
Camon, a 25-year-old native of Port Charlotte, Florida, played collegiately at the University of South Florida and was in his second season with the Thunder. A memorial service for Camon is being held in Ormond Beach, Florida at 4:00 p.m. this afternoon. For details and related stories, please visit www.dbthunder.net.
