Vancouver Giants News Release
The Vancouver Giants congratulate goaltender TYSON SEXSMITH on signing an entry level contract with the San Jose Sharks. Terms of Sexsmith's contract with the NHL club have not been released.
Sexsmith has completed three seasons in the WHL with the Giants. The native of Priddis, Alberta holds Giants club records for wins in a season (43-2007/08), goals against average in a season (1.79-2006/07), and career shut-outs (20). Last season, Sexsmith led the WHL in goals against average (1.89) and shut-outs (9).
"Tyson has been a huge reason for our success over the past few seasons," says Giants General Manager Scott Bonner. "He has a bright future ahead of him as a professional and we congratulate him on taking another step towards becoming a goalie in the National Hockey League."
Sexsmith was a third round pick of the Sharks in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft (91st overall). Originally the Giants first round pick in the 2004 WHL Bantam Draft (14th overall), Sexsmith was a member of the Giants WHL Championship club in 2006 as well as the Memorial Cup Championship team in 2007. This weekend, Sexsmith will be among 45 players from across the country taking part in Hockey Canada's World Junior Team development camp in Ottawa.
