San Jose Giants News Release

ered as part of a three-hit night to lead the Giants offensively in defeat. Aeverson Arteaga (1-for-4, HR, RBI) also went deep while Riley Mahan (2-for-5) and Hayden Cantrelle (2-for-5, 2B) added two hits apiece. San Jose out-hit Fresno 12-6, but went 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position and left 12 on base.

The Giants jumped out early on Saturday with a pair of solo home runs to take a 2-0 lead. Rodriguez's blast with one out in the top of the second opened the scoring. Then in the third, Arteaga hit the first pitch of the inning over the fence in deep left for another round-tripper. The home runs for Rodriguez and Arteaga were their seventh and eighth of the season respectively.

Meanwhile, Eric Silva started on the mound for San Jose and began his night with two scoreless innings retiring six of the first seven batters he faced. The Grizzlies though would rally for two runs in the bottom of the third to tie the game. A triple from Yorvis Torrealba started the frame before EJ Andrews Jr. produced an RBI double to get Fresno on the board. A wild pitch later moved Andrews Jr. to third and then Braxton Fulford's sacrifice fly brought the run home to tie the score 2-2.

John Gavin relieved Silva to begin the bottom of the fourth and tossed two scoreless innings out of the bullpen to keep the game deadlocked. Gavin surrendered only one hit and struck out three during his outing. The Giants then pushed across two runs in the top of the sixth to go back ahead. Consecutive singles from Cantrelle and Rodriguez put runners on the corners with none out before Garrett Frechette's RBI groundout gave San Jose a 3-2 lead. Then with two down, Jared Dupere's grounder to second was misplayed by Brito for an error to extend the inning. Grant McCray was up next and his infield single to deep short plated Rodriguez to make it 4-2.

Ben Madison then entered from the bullpen in the bottom of the sixth and breezed through a 1-2-3 inning, but would run into trouble in the seventh. Ben Sems led off the decisive half-inning with a double to deep right center. A one-out walk to Torrealba and a two-out walk to Adael Amador then loaded the bases. Brito was up next and Madison was one strike away from ending the inning, but a 1-2 pitch was laced down the right field line. The hit went for a double as all three runners easily scored giving the Grizzlies their first lead of the contest at 5-4.

The Giants threatened in both the eighth and ninth innings, but came away empty-handed against the Fresno bullpen. In the eighth, McCray was plunked with one out and stole second. Carter Williams then drew a two-out walk, however Mahan grounded out to end the threat. Then in the ninth, while still down by a run, Cantrelle led off with a ringing double into the right field corner. However, Cantrelle was promptly picked off at second by Grizzlies closer Juan Mejia for the first out. Rodriguez then struck out and Frechette grounded out to end the game.
