Vancouver Giants News Release
The Vancouver Giants snapped their 3 game losing skid, defeating the Everett Silvertips 4-3 Friday night at the Pacific Coliseum. 15 year old Payton Lee made 19 saves for his 1st career WHL victory in his 1st career WHL start.
The Giants got off to a quick start, scoring 8:08 into the opening period as Riley Kieser banged in a rebound for his 3rd goal in just his 5th game in a Giants uniform. Brett Kulak put the Giants up 2-0 on the power play with his 5th goal of the season, beating a screened Kent Simpson. Unfortunately, Vancouver got into penalty trouble late in the frame to give the Silvertips a 5-on-3. They would end up scoring two goals, 33 seconds apart on the man advantage to tie the game at 2-2 after 20 minutes.
Just past the midway point of the second period the Giants regained their lead; Anthony Ast tipped home a Kiefer McNaughton point shot for his 4th goal of the season to put Vancouver up 3-2. Later in the period, Kulak scored his 2nd of the game on the power play to give the Giants a 4-2 lead through two periods of play.
After failing on their first two power play opportunities in the third period, the Silvertips capitalized on their 3rd scoring with 1:47 left in the game and Kent Simpson on the bench for a 6-on-4, to make it a 4-3 game. The Giants though would shut the door the rest of the way to win 4-3. Lee stopped 19 shots in the Giants net for his 1st career WHL victory. Vancouver finished 2-for-7 on the power play, while Everett went 3-for-5.
The Giants are back in action tomorrow night when they make the trip to Kelowna to take on the Rockets at Prospera Place. Game time is 7:05 pm. The pregame show begins at 6:30 pm on AM 650.
