Georgia Gwizzlies Championship Quest Begins In January

December 16, 2007 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Georgia Gwizzlies News Release

Macon, GA. The ABA Georgia Gwizzlies, who make their home in Macon, GA, has stated a goal of bringing the city of Macon and Middle Georgia an ABA title, and according to Embry Malone, team owner, "Our team is currently in the process of getting passports so that we can travel to games in Halifax, CA, the Bahamas and Singapore so that we can include them in our schedule with games in Texas, Chicago, New Jersey, California and Delaware. We believe we have a team with championship caliber and are appreciative of the ABA giving us an opportunity to have a pro basketball team. We owe the ABA nothing less than a 100% effort - and that's what we're going to do."

"Another thing that people forget is that the ABA has changed the shape of professional sports ownership with its diversification allowing inclusion of African American, Asian, Hispanic and women owners. That alone has made this league special - and has forced other leagues to follow," added Malone. "Minority ownership took a great step forward when Joe Newman made diversity a primary mission and people should not forget that." Starting in January, you'll see a new-look and even more impressive Georgia Gwizzlies. For more information, visit www.abalive.com.

Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
