Georgia Force News Release
FLOWERY BRANCH, GA- The second day of camp was comprised of passion and intensity as the Force took the field at 8:30 a.m. and again at 3 p.m.
The morning opened up with individual drills before moving to a special teams session. After struggling for most of the 2007 season, effort and execution on kickoff coverage and returns is being emphasized by every coach. In position drills, the offensive and defensive linemen battled one another, with each side of the ball winning their fair share of the contests. While the linemen practiced at one end of the field the quarterbacks and wide receivers competed against the defensive backs at the other end of the field. The defense struck the first blow with an interception by DB Stephen Cason in the back corner of the endzone. The offense quickly returned the favor as both QBs Chris Greisen and Ben Dougherty connected with rookie WR Chad Cone for touchdowns. The intensity continued into the team portion of practice as DB Hamin Milligan recovered a fumbled snap and returned it for a defensive touchdown to begin the period. The offense was highlighted by touchdown passes to WR Carl Morris and WR/DB Damian Daniels from Greisen and Dougherty.
Greisen connected with newly acquired WR Willis Marshall for two scores in the afternoon practice. The first came during the three-on-three portion of practice, and the second came in the team period when he beat press-coverage to get open. The defensive front of Jermaine Smith, Ernest Allen and R-Kal Truluck applied pressure to the quarterback on several occasions during the session. The offense answered the pressure with a touchdown pass from Dougherty to FB/LB Johnnie Balous on a screen pass. Near the end of practice, both DL Will Thompson and DL Elbert Shumake combined for a sack of QB Tom Arth.
"Every player came out and competed hard today, said Offensive Coordinator Jim Kubiak. "We are working on a couple of different schemes on offense, but the guys seem to be picking it up quickly. We are looking forward to having Orlando come in here for a couple of days of practice. I think it will provide us with a great opportunity to assess the talent on our team."
Friday, February 15 and Saturday, February 16, the Force will host combined workouts with the Orlando Predators at their Flowery Branch practice facility.
