Stockton Thunder News Release
STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, a two time recipient of the ECHL "Award of Excellence," and President Dan Chapman announced today that George Bullock Jr. has been named the team's interim Head Athletic Trainer.
Bullock Jr. is scheduled to work his first game in the head position on Friday in Game 1 of the Western Conference Semifinal against the Alaska Aces at Sullivan Arena. He succeeds Kevin Anderson, who has accepted a position in the athletics department with San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton.
"George comes to the Thunder with a proven track record and a wealth of experience as an athletic trainer in professional hockey," said Chapman. "With Kevin's departure we're very fortunate to have a guy like George step in and the transition will be seamless."
Bullock Jr. is in his 18th season of professional hockey and will oversee all medical needs of the Thunder, on and off the ice. He previously served the Bakersfield Condors (ECHL) as Head Athletic Trainer from 2011-13. He has worked over 1,150 games in professional hockey with stops in the Central Hockey League with Wichita, Bossier-Shreveport and in the ECHL as well with Greensboro.
He was an integral part of Bossier-Shreveport's run to the President's Cup championship in 2010-11 and was named CHL Athletic Trainer of the Year that season.
Bullock Jr. earned his Bachelor's degree in Sports Medicine at Guilford College in Greensboro, N.C. and his Master's degree in Sport Injury Prevention & Management at Springfield College.
Anderson leaves the Thunder after completing eight regular seasons with the club and being named the first full-time employee to his position in 2005-06. He was named 2010-11 ECHL Athletic Trainer of the Year in a vote by the league's head athletic trainers and equipment managers and served on the league's All-Star Game training staff three times in his career.
Anderson worked over 600 consecutive regular season and Kelly Cup Playoff games, concluding his service in Game 7 of the Western Conference Quarterfinal at Stockton Arena vs. Las Vegas in a 6-4 Thunder win.
During his time with the Thunder, Anderson also served the Stockton Lightning of the arenafootball2 league in the same position from 2006-09 and was named af2 Athletic Trainer of the Year in 2008.
"The Thunder organization would like to thank Kevin for his eight years of tremendous work and dedication to our team and players," said Chapman. "He was regarded as one of the best trainers throughout the ECHL and we're grateful for all that he accomplished."
The ECHL affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers of the NHL, the Thunder led the ECHL in attendance for four consecutive seasons and drew over 200,000 fans for the seventh consecutive season in 2011-12. Season Tickets, Group Tickets and Mini-Plans are on sale now.
