Geneva Red Wings News Release
GENEVA, N.Y. - A cool summer night in Geneva set the tone for what turned out to be a riveting 10 innings of baseball as the Geneva Red wings prevailed over the Newark Pilots in extra innings.
After having their first two games rained-out and losing to the Elmira Pioneers on Sunday (6/3), the Pilots were looking to get back on track with a win at Geneva. But the Red Wings had other plans in mind.
The Red Wings allowed 5 runs in the first inning of the contest but refused to quit. The Wings, after making some personnel changes, held the Pilots to their 5 runs for the entirety of the game and answered with 6 runs of their own. One after another, Geneva chipped away at the deficit, and maintained their "never say die" demeanor. Stepping onto the diamond late in the game was outfielder #8 Sam Fuller (St. Bonaventure Univ.), who ultimately scored the game winning run after teammate #6 Nick Carnevale (Brookdale Univ.) hit a shot between first and second base to send Fuller home and win the game.
Geneva Pitcher #2 Joey Haass (University of Delaware) came into the game to close and ended up with the win on the mound, while Newark Pitcher #25 Alec Teska (St. John Fisher College) nabbed the loss. Geneva outfielder #26 Langston Livingston (St. Josephs University) had himself quite the game with 3 hits, as did his teammate #31 Nick LaBrasca (Youngstown State) who ended the night with 2 hits.
For Newark, hit leaders were #11 Dawson Bailey (Niagara Univ.) with 2 hits, and teammate #6 Alexander Hernandez (Nova Southeastern Univ.) also with 2.
Geneva will play Newark again on Friday, June 8th at Colburn park in Newark, NY at 7:05pm.
With the win, the Red Wings move to 3-1, and will play home again tomorrow, June 6th, at 7:05pm against the Elmira Pioneers at McDonough Park.
