
Geneva hands Utica first loss of season

The Geneva Red Wings continued their hot start to the 2016 season on Tuesday when they visited Utica for an 11 A.M. first pitch. Geneva starting pitcher Dalton Reed (West Chester Univ.) threw six strong innings only allowing three hits and one run before he was lifted heading into the seventh with a 4-1 lead.
The Red Wings offense quickly got behind there starting pitcher, scoring three runs in the top half of the second off of a Britton Araujo (Oglethorpe Univ.) RBI single, Ivan Wortman (Ashland Univ.) RBI groundout, and a Blue Sox error that lead to the third run.
Geneva would add yet another run in the fifth, when Mike Korchak (Bucknell) roped a double into the right center gap and was later brought home on a bases load hit by pitch. The Red Wings totaled a season high eleven hits on the day, before turning to the bullpen in the seventh inning. Will Nahmens (Occidental College) took over from their on the mound, pitching a scoreless three innings while striking out five Blue Sox batters and picking up his first save of the season.
Dalton Reed picked up his first win of the season for Geneva, defeating Michael Klingensmith (Indiana Univ. Penn.) and the previously undefeated Utica Blue Sox (3-1). With the win, The Red Wings improved their record to 3-1 on the 2016 campaign and will play three of their next four games at home inside McDonough Park.
Next up for Geneva, will be a visit from the Newark Pilots on Tuesday night at 7:05. Sitting in a three way tie for first place with Newark and Utica, Geneva will try to break things wide open on Tuesday night when they face the Pilots.
