Flint Generals News Release
FLINT, MI - The Flint Generals of the International Hockey League dropped 2 games in week #18 of IHL action. Here is a quick look back.
Friday, February 13, 2009 - Flint 1 @ Port Huron 8 - The Generals gave up 4 first period goals and could not recover. Center Jordan Boman (30 scored Flint's only goal in the second period.
Saturday, February 14, 2009 - Muskegon 8 @ Flint 7 - This game was a wild one that saw the Generals come back from a 5-1 second period deficit to gain a 6-5 lead. Eventually, the Generals gave up 2 late third period goals in an 8-7 loss to the Muskegon Lumberjacks in front of 2,003 at Perani Arena on Saturday night.
The game was one in which the momentum switched from each team several times. The Lumberjacks' Todd Robinson (20) scored the first goal just 19 seconds after the opening face off for the 1-0 lead. Flint would tie it as Steve Rymsha (30) scored his first of three goals at 9:46.
Muskegon regained the first period lead on Luke Stauffacher's first of three goals (23) at the 16:16 mark for a 2-1 score after 20 minutes of play.
In the second period, the Generals would allow 2 goals in 18 seconds and 3 goals in 1:32 on two goals by Stauffacher with a goal in-between by defenseman Steven Later to put Flint in a 5-1 hole.
The Generals would bounce back with 5 consecutive goals, 3 in the second, (2 by Rob Voltera, 1 by Rymsha), and 2 early third period goals (Rymsha & Pearson) to earn a 6-5 lead. Muskegon tied it at 6-6 on a goal by right wing Robin Bouchard (20) at 4:38 of the third period.
It would stay that way until Generals' center Greg Bullock (18) connected at 12:05 to regain the lead at 7-6. With time becoming a factor, Muskegon scored 2 late third period goals to secure the victory as Maxime Lincourt (15) tied the game at 7-7 at 17:42. Defenseman Dan Boeser (4) scored the game-winner from a big scramble in front of Generals' goaltender Chad Alban at 18:31 for the 8-7 final.
The Generals were lead by Rymsha's 3-goal hat trick, Voltera had 2 goals and 1 assist, Bullock chipped in with his goal and 3 assists while Zack Pearson had 1 goal and 2 assists. The Lumberjacks Luke Stauffacher had the 3-goal hat trick, center Todd Robison had 1 goal and 4 assists while Adam Bartholomay had 3 helpers.
Weekly Nominations - Right wing Steve Rymsha is our nominee for the Pepsi/UHL Player of the Week ending Sunday, February 15, 2009. Rymsha posted the 3-goal hat trick against Muskegon on Saturday night.
Right wing Zach Pearson is our nominee for the Aquafina/UHL Rookie of the Week ending Sunday, February 15, 2009. Pearson had 1 goal and 2 assists against Muskegon last Saturday night.
