Generals Looking To Capture Two Straight Over Colorado

June 26, 2009 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
El Paso Generals News Release

EL PASO, TX. : The El Paso Generals defeated the River City Rage last weekend by the score of 70-56 from the Family Arena at St. Charles, Missouri. Generals QB Tommy Jones threw for 280 yards and five touchdowns while WR DeAngelo Woodie led the Generals receiving core with eight receptions for 114 yards and three touchdowns. The El Paso Generals will now look to continue to build momentum towards the playoffs when they host the Colorado Ice on Saturday, June 27. El Paso defeated the Ice back on June 13, 65-33, from Fort Collins.

The Generals offense is among the best in the IFL and that offense is led by one of the top quarterbacks in the league in Tommy Jones. Jones will look to attack the Ice secondary like he did back on June 13 with WR DeAngelo Woodie and Lemans Casimier. Look for RB Ulysses Odom to be the key factor in the running game and he might be used periodically in the passing game as well. The Ice defense is coming off a disastrous game against the Billings Outlaws last Saturday giving up a total of 83 points. Now Colorado will have an even tougher task in containing the high-powered Generals offense. DL Jason Vincent will be the key player in attempting to pressure Tommy Jones. Vincent leads the team with six sacks and he had three quarterback hurries in last week's game against Billings.

The Ice secondary will have their hands full with a very good group of receivers. The big assignment for the Ice secondary is not allowing the big plays to continuously occur through out the game. Donnie Craft Jr. and Courtney Miller will look to control the great dual-receiving corp in Woodie and Casimier. On the other side of the field the Generals defense has been solid all season long and that defense finds a way to make important game-changing plays in the clutch. Sam Smith has developed into one of the top linebackers in the IFL and look for Ron Ellington to be pressuring the pocket on Saturday.

The bigger question for Colorado is at the quarterback position. Justin Holland will be the likely starter but if his injury continues to disrupt his game then expect Miles Scheer to get the nod at quarterback. Eugene Reed will try to get the running game going early along with possibly Maurice Cantrell. Do not be surprised if wide outs Josh Gibson and George Hill have good games, and look for George Hill to be a factor in the kick return game as well.

Expect a high-scoring game between two teams that are prepping for the post-season, but Colorado could be in trouble if they cannot get the running game going and if they can't find a way to control El Paso's passing attack. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. from the El Paso County Coliseum. Next week, El Paso remains at home to face the Rochester Raiders on Military Appreciation Night for the Fourth of July.
