
Generals fall to Lumberjacks, 3-2

FLINT, MI - The Flint Generals of the International Hockey League put forth a strong defensive effort but come up short while losing to the Muskegon Lumberjacks 3-2 in front of 1,257 at Perani Arena on Sunday night.
After a scoreless first period, the Generals took the lead in the second period as Frank Littlejohn (21) scored at 8:57 for the 1-0 advantage. Muskegon tied it and took the lead when Chad Costello (13) connected at 9:29 and former General John DiPace (27) scored his first of two goals at 11:23, a power play tally for putting Flint in a 2-1 deficit after 40 minutes of play.
In the third period, the Generals would tie it on a power play goal of their own as defenseman Martin Ondrej (1) beat Lumberjacks' goaltender John Ceci at 8:43 for the 2-2 score. Muskegon wrapped it up with a power play goal by John DiPace (28), his second goal of the game at 14:13 for the 3-2 score.
Flint goaltender Chad Alban, who stopped 46 of 49 shots he faced, was pulled for the extra attacker in the final minute but the Generals could not get the equalizer to force overtime. Generals' center Greg Bullock chipped in with 2 assists, while Muskegon's Todd Robinson had assists on all three Muskegon goals.
The Generals (16-33-2-4, 38 pts.) are in 6th place in the International Hockey League. Muskegon (31-15-3-3, 68 pts.) moves into a first place tie with the Port Huron Icehawks and has 1 game in hand. Flint and Muskegon will face each other once again next Saturday night at Perani Arena.
Flint's next home game is Thursday, February 26, 2009 against the Bloomington Prairie Thunder at 7:00 p.m. at Perani Arena. The Generals welcome 1980 Team USA Gold Medal Miracle on Ice Hero, goaltender Jim Craig to the game. Jim is the spokesperson for the ULTIMATE SAAVE (Saving Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Very Efficiently). Craig lost his father to AAA in 1988.
