Flint Generals News Release

FLINT, MI - The Flint Generals of the International Hockey League are proud and pleased to assist members of our community in efforts to help others. The Flint Generals are proud to join forces with Torrey Family & Friends Committee to help a very important member of the I.A.R.C. family battle cancer.

This special fundraising effort begins immediately in preparations for the game on Sunday, March 29, 2009 as the Generals host the Fort Wayne Komets at Perani Arena at 4:00 p.m.

The committee is comprised of many colleagues and associates (past and present) who are teaming up to assist Mr. Jeff Torrey and his fight against cancer. Jeff is currently the Clinical Director of IARC (Intake Assessment and Referral Center) and has been battling cancer for several years.

Linda Bielskis, speaking on behalf of the Torrey Family & Friends Committee, is the Executive Director of IARC and a long-time colleague of Torrey. "Jeff has been a tremendous fighter in this long battle against cancer," said Bielskis. "He will be starting new and aggressive chemotherapy treatment to try and stop the progression of the cancer. This is going to be a major financial investment. All of us want to do whatever we can to help him. Our group has many things planned."

Bielskis talks about Jeff's commitment to his profession. "Jeff has been one of the most respected administrators in assisting those with chemical dependencies, drug use along with other physical and mental challenges," continues Bielskis. "The care and compassion he has provided to the citizens of Genesee County has made a tremendously positive impact on our community and solid credibility to what our industry is all about. He is very much appreciated."

Bielskis, a great Red Wings fan, is very familiar with the Generals because of someone close to their hockey family. "I had the privilege of working with Lori Roe (wife of Generals' Robert Roe) for many years early in my career and have kept in contact with her," explained Bielskis. "Of course, those of us working together back then knew of her husband and the Flint Generals, too. Our family has seen Flint games. We were pleased to find out about these fundraising ideas offered by the Generals are happy that they can help us now."

Generals' Head Coach Bobby Reynolds acknowledges the pride in assisting but it certainly is about the community. "Again, it is the Torrey Family & Friends Committee that deserves all the credit here," said Reynolds. "There are many, many people stepping up to help out someone very important to them in his time of need. They deserve the congratulations and support of our entire community," continues Reynolds. "The Flint Generals are very proud and honored to be of assistance in this very important effort."
