Generals Announce Revised 2003-04 Schedule

July 22, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL)
Greensboro Generals News Release

The Greensboro Generals have announced their revised schedule for the 2003-2004 season. The schedule is slightly altered from the one previously released by the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) due to arena scheduling conflicts.

The revised dates include home games vs. Augusta on January 6 (originally scheduled for Jan. 9), vs. Columbia on January 13 (originally scheduled for Feb. 14) and vs. Florida on March 28 (originally scheduled for March 27). Also of note, the Generals road game at Columbia on January 18th has been adjusted to a 3:00 PM start time (originally scheduled for 4:00 PM).

The Generals will play in the expanded ECHL's Eastern Conference in the newly aligned Southern Division along with Augusta, Charlotte, Columbia, Florence, Florida, Greenville, Gwinnett, Roanoke and South Carolina.

The Generals open the year with back-to-back home games. The home opener is against the South Carolina Stingrays on October 17th at 7:30 PM. Next up is the newly formed Texas Wildcatters who visit the Greensboro Coliseum for the first time on October 23rd at 7:30 PM

Among the Generals' 36 home games are seven Fridays, seven Saturdays and 10 home games on Thursday. All Thursday home games will be "Thirsty Thursday" nights, with the Greensboro Coliseum selling $1.00 draft beers.

Among the highlights of the Generals' schedule are home games on two holidays, Halloween (Friday, Oct. 31 vs. Atlantic City) and Thanksgiving (Nov. 27 vs. Florida). Additionally, in-state rival Charlotte will visit Greensboro on four occasions (Jan. 8, Jan. 29, Feb. 26 and Feb. 28).

The longest home stands are a pair of five-game sets on November 20-26 (vs. Mississippi, Roanoke, South Carolina, Reading and Florida) and January 6-16 (vs. Augusta, Charlotte, Atlantic City, Columbia and Florence).

The Generals first road trip will be a two-game swing through South Carolina that will see the team face off against Columbia (Oct. 24) and Greenville (Oct. 25). The longest road trips of the year are three four-game stretches: January 16-23 (at Gwinnett, Augusta, Columbia and Charlotte), January 30-February 8 (at Wheeling, Mississippi and two games at Pensacola) and March 5-13 (vs. Florence, two games at Columbia and Gwinnett).

The ECHL opens its 2003-04 season on October 17 with 31 teams in 17 states playing a record 1,116 games, making it the largest league in professional hockey. The ECHL welcomes nine new markets for 2003-04 with the addition of the Alaska Aces, the Bakersfield Condors, the Fresno Falcons, the Gwinnett (Georgia) Gladiators, the Idaho (Boise) Steelheads, the Las Vegas Wranglers, the Long Beach Ice Dogs, the San Diego Gulls, and the Texas (Beaumont) Wildcatters. A revision to the originally released ECHL schedule was necessitated when the Arkansas RiverBlades unexpectedly announced that they did not plan to play in 2003-04.

Special "early bird" season ticket packages are currently on sale. Please call (336) 373-2632 for more information.
