Flint Generals News Release

FLINT, MI - The Flint Generals have added an important piece to the roster today that will aim to keep the club in top physical condition. The Generals announced they have entered into a partnership with the Kinesiology Department at Saginaw Valley State University.

The entire Generals' Training Camp roster will visit SVSU on Monday, Oct. 6 and spend the entire day being tested by Kinesiology students in a variety of mediums including Wingate test, Strength and Agility, under water body composition. There will be a morning and afternoon session with lunch provided by the Department. A sports nutritionist will also meet with Generals' players. The Kinesiology department will also be assisting the Generals in off-ice training activities in Flint during camp. The Generals team will also visit SVSU a second time during the half-way part of the season to compare results from training camp.

"Having SVSU involved in our Training Camp, and especially our Fitness Testing will be a huge asset to our team, and every individual player," remarked Head Coach Peter South. "This affiliation with SVSU will help ensure that we not only attain peak physical conditioning for our team, but we can maintain it throughout the season."

SVSU Assistant Professor of Kinesiology Josh Ode says the partnership is a great opportunity for their students and department. "To work with professional athletes is something a lot of universities don't have the chance to do," Ode said. "Students will get to apply a lot of things they have learned which is our goal. I think the information provided can help the Generals win hockey games especially the information we can get them year round."

Fans will be able to find a full-behind the scenes report on the Generals at the SVSU training in the 08-09 Souvenir Program that will be available for purchase during opening weekend at Perani Arena and Event Center.

Flint Generals Training Camp will kick off on Sunday, Oct. 5 with a welcome dinner and physicals for the players.
