
Generals Activate Recently Signed Catcher Jesus Sucre

JACKSON, TENN. (JULY 19, 2011 - The Jackson Generals have made the following roster moves today. The Seattle Mariners have signed free agent catcher, Jesus Sucre to a minor league player contract and have assigned him to Double-A Jackson. Also, RHP Stephen Penney has been placed on the temporary inactive list. These moves are made prior to Wednesday night's series opener with the Montgomery Biscuits at Pringles Park. Attached is a new roster in PDF format. The Generals roster stands at 24 active players, 12 pitchers, 2 catchers, 5 infielders, 5 outfielders, 6 disabled players and 1 temporarily inactive.
SUCRE, 23 was recently released by the Atlanta Braves and had played in 40 games this season with the Mississippi Braves in the Southern League. Sucre was batting .219, with 5 doubles and 10 RBI's. Prior to the 2011 season Sucre was named the best defensive catcher in the Braves' organization by Baseball America. Sucre had his best game of the season against the Generals on opening night at Trustmark Park, finishing 3-for-4 with a run scored. Sucre was signed by the Braves as a non-drafted free agent on May 25, 2005.
PENNEY, 24 is placed on the temporary inactive list and has appeared in 27 games this season and is 4-2, with a 5.29 ERA, recording 19 strikeouts in 32.1 innings pitched. Penney has 2 saves and 7 holds this season for the Generals.
