Gems Update

January 26, 2011 - West Coast League (WCL)
Klamath Falls Gems News Release

With February almost here, we're drawing closer to our first game and things are jumping here at Kiger Stadium! Since our last newsletter, a lot of things have been happening, mainly behind the scenes but all in preparation to put on a great show this summer for you, our fans.

If you haven't visited www.klamathfallsgems.com recently, please check it out for our current player roster, schedule, upcoming promotions and a lot of information about the Gems and our inaugural season.

Starting with Opening Night presented by Harvest Ford, on June 3, we're lining up some really great promotional nights and special events. Here are just a few:

Great giveaways, including:

- Commemorative "First Gems Game" t-shirts at Opening Night presented by Harvest Ford, on Friday, June 3 vs. the Bend Elks;

- Seat cushions, courtesy of Fisher Nicholson Realtors, on Friday, June 10 vs. the defending West Coast League Champion Wenatchee AppleSox;

- Gems baseballs, courtesy of the Herald and News, on Friday, June 24 vs. the Bellingham Bells

- Gems home caps, courtesy of McDonald's of Klamath Falls, on Friday, July 15 vs. the Cowlitz Black Bears. Ronald McDonald himself will be there!

- Gems mini-bats, courtesy of the Herald and News, on Friday, July 22 vs. the Walla Walla Sweets;

- Back-to-school backpacks, courtesy of Country Legends 960, on Friday, August 5 vs. the Bend Elks.

Theme nights, including:

- KLAD Family Sundays - every Sunday we'll offer half-price tickets and $2 hot dogs, soda and water. After each Sunday game our players will be in the first and third base decks to sign autographs, take pictures and meet Gems fans. Kids will be able to run the bases after each Sunday game, and parents can head for the outfield to play catch on the field.

- Wild Weeknights - every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, we'll offer $2 hot dogs, soda and beer. A great chance to come out and save a little!

- Legacy Furniture Saturday recliner raffle - every Saturday you'll have the chance to win one of two new recliners, courtesy of Legacy Furniture. We'll sell raffle tickets for $2 each during the games prior to and including each Saturday, and those funds will go to charity. So you'll help others while you have a chance to win a new recliner.

Special events, including:

- Holliday Jewelry Diamond Dig - Holliday Jewelry gives you the chance to win a REAL diamond (and not the baseball kind!). The first 300 females who purchase a mini-shovel for $5 (those funds also go to charity) will have the chance to go on the infield dirt after the game and dig for the diamond. If you find it, it's yours to keep!

- Military Appreciation Night - we'll be working with the Freedom Festival at the Klamath County Fairgrounds to make our July 4 game a special night honoring our American Heroes.

On October 28-31, the Gems and Kiger Stadium will host the first "Field of Screams" haunted house, something we hope to make a yearly tradition.

Those are just some of the great things we've got going for 2011, with many more to come!

As we open in June, you'll see some improvements and enhancements to Kiger Stadium. For instance, construction has already begun on our "Diamond Terrace" seating area, the only reserved seating at the ballpark. By the time we open our season, you'll see a second level of outfield signage, a great indication of the tremendous corporate support the Gems are receiving. We'll have a new merchandise stand inside the ballpark, as well as a lot of new paint and other improvements.

Working with McDonald's of Klamath Falls, we'll be offering the McDonald's Kids Dugout, an attended playground area inside the ballpark, where kids can play during the game, allowing you true baseball fans to concentrate on the action on the field!

We're working with Diamond S Meats of Klamath Falls to find healthier hot dogs and hamburgers, and for you traditionalists we'll still have good old ballpark food. You'll see a great variety of food and drink (including beer) at Gems games. If there's something you'd like us to have, please let us know and we'll do what we can!

For those of you who can't get enough baseball, keep an eye out on the Gems Web site as we tell you about Kiger Stadium's extensive amateur game schedule. Starting in March, Kiger will host games featuring Oregon Tech, Mazama High School, and the Klamath Falls Babe Ruth and American Legion organizations.

We hope you'll attend these games and see players who could develop into future Gems. The Legion and Babe Ruth programs have been a part of Kiger Stadium for decades, and we at the Gems hope you'll come out and watch them play.

One last thing to mention is that the Gems fundraising program is really taking off! Check out the "Raise funds for your group" tab on our Web site to find out how we can help you. Some of the groups already taking advantage of this easy fundraising tool are the Rip City Riders, the Moose Lodge, Henley High School and the Lost River Future Business Leaders of America. If you're part of a group looking for an easy way to raise money, let us help!

Thank you for being Gems fans, and please let us know if you have any questions about the Gems, our promotional schedule, amateur baseball at Kiger, our fundraising programs, or anything else we can help you with! We're always available by phone at 541-883-GEMS or by e-mail at info@klamathfallsgems.com .

We look forward to seeing you at Kiger Stadium!
