Gems Lose Starting Pitcher Early, Lose 2nd Straight to Medford 8-3

Klamath Falls OR, June 1, 2013: Gems starting right hander, Aaron Quillen (University of Tennessee), took a hard line drive in the top of the second inning and had to leave the game after giving up four runs in the first two innings, and the Klamath Falls Gems never recovered, falling 8-3 to the Medford Rogues in pre-season action at Kiger Stadium.

Bret Deeroy (Campbellsville, KY) earned the win pitching five innings and giving up six hits and two earned runs. Dylan Rogers (O.I.T.) and Chet Thompson (Univ. of Portland) each had two hits of the nine total for the Gems. Quillen took the lost in his first start of the season.

Next Saturday, June 8th, the Gems celebrate Opening Day of the regular season as they host the Bellingham Bells at Kiger Stadium, starting at 6:35pm. The Gems Saturday promotion give away is courtesy of Legacy Furniture, where a beautiful new recliner chair will be given away to a lucky Gems fan. Legacy Furniture plans to give away a recliner chair at each and every Saturday home game all season long.

The Klamath Falls gems are members of the West Coast League, the Diamond Standard among summer collegiate baseball. The eleven team, professional style wood-bat league features pro prospects from major conferences across the country. More than 120 WCL alums played affiliated professional baseball last season, and 20 ex-WCL stars played in the Major Leagues last season.
