Klamath Falls Gems News Release
Klamath Falls, Oregon: Tuesday, February 12, 2013: Did your kids go away to college or do you have a spare guest room collecting dust? Do you love baseball and want to be a part of the local community's baseball team? Well, you are in luck! The Gems are still looking for local families to host some of their talented players for the 2013 season.
Young college men come to Klamath Falls from all over the country each summer to pursue a career in baseball. With the short amount of time that they are in town, they need housing during the 35-40 days they are not on the road with the team. Their season runs from June 1st until August 11th, half of which is spent on the road.
There are many perks to being a host family. The tangible for the family include season tickets to the 2013 Gems home games, invites to host family-exclusive events, on field recognition, and other benefits as the season goes on.
Host family Michael and Grayce Kelly look forward to hosting a new player each year because they want the players to have the opportunity to play ball. They also mentioned that hosting a player not only affects them positively, but their grandchildren too. "We love having a player in our home," Mike Kelly said. "We love going to the games as well."
Being a host family not only benefits you, but also benefits the player in many ways. Having a host family gives the player a home away from home for the season and a family atmosphere while they are in a new town. The relationships players and host families build often continue long after the player moves on in his baseball career.
If you are interested in hosting a player this season, please contact Alexandra Irving, the Director of Sales & Operations, at alexandra@klamathfallsgems.com or 408-839-4013 as soon as possible. You can access the host family application on the Gems website. We will match you with a player that fits your preferences and lifestyle through interviews and personal contact with the players before they arrive in late May.
"The Gems would love to have you as a part of our family this summer," said General Manager Grant Wilson. "Many host families form lifetime bonds with these players, following their careers as they try to reach the Big Leagues," added Wilson.
2013 Klamath Falls Gems Ticket Packages are available by calling 541-883-4367. The first 2013 home game will be against the Medford Rogues on Saturday, June 1.
The Klamath Falls Gems are members of the West Coast League, the Diamond Standard among summer college baseball. The eleven-team, professional style wood-bat league features pro prospects from major conferences across the country. More than 120 WCL alums played affiliated professional baseball last season, and 20 ex-WCL stars played in the Major Leagues last season.
