Gems Announce Mitch Karraker's Return as Head Coach

There will be continuity on the field and in the clubhouse as Gems' Head Coach, Mitch Karraker, will return for the Gems' 2014 Season. The popular Karraker, who was a fan favorite, will be the first returning coach in the Gems' history. "We are ecstatic to have Mitch back with us for next season," said Lisa Walker, interim General Manager for the Gems. "Mitch is a great role-model for our players. His sportsmanship and knowledge of the game is incredible. Mitch portrays many positive attributes that we want our players to aspire to be," concluded Walker.
Karraker is from Fresno, California and attended Buchanan High School before enrolling at Fresno City College. He was a first team all-league and all-state selection as a catcher. After Fresno City College, Karraker was recruited to George Horton's program at the University of Oregon. He was part of the historic 2009 Ducks team, the first Ducks team since the sport was discontinued in 1981. Karraker played in the West Coast League, in 2010, for the Bend Bucks. After finishing his playing career, Karraker became a coach as an undergraduate assistant for Coach Horton at Oregon and was named Head Coach of the Klamath Falls Gems for the 2013 Season.
"I am excited and grateful for another opportunity to coach the Gems in 2014. I look forward to building another great team and working towards improving on what we were able to accomplish last season," said Karraker. "I have already started recruited and talking with college coaches about players wanting to come to Klamath next summer!"
The Gems' recently announced their plans for the 2014 Season and confirmed the West Coast League All-Star Game has been awarded to Klamath Falls. Season Ticket plans are available for purchase now, by calling the Gems' Dustin Howell at 541-539-1278. "Those who contact me now, will be put on a Priority List for seat selection for 2014, said Howell. "It will also provide them first opportunity for purchasing All-Star Game tickets when they go on sale!"
