March 18, 2011 - West Coast League (WCL)
Klamath Falls Gems News Release

KLAMATH FALLS, OR - The Klamath Falls Gems filled another summer intern spot today, bringing aboard Philipp Pohl as the team's Baseball Operations Intern. Pohl, a 2008 graduate of Klamath Union High School, is a junior at the University of Oregon, majoring in Sports Marketing.

"Phil fills a tremendous need for us in the actual baseball part of the operation," Gems General Manager Chuck Heeman said. "As we concentrate on getting the Gems on the right path as a sustainable business, we really need someone who can focus on helping give us an advantage at the playing level. Phil has a tremendous knowledge and love of statistics and he'll be a huge help in finding tendencies our coaches can use to better teach our players. He'll be a great help in upgrading our Web site and giving complete and accurate information to our fans. He'll get great experience here in learning how a baseball team works at ground level."

Pohl's duties will include official scorekeeping during games, designing and producing statistics packages for staff, fans and media, posting information to the Gems Web site, helping Gems coaches and staff with baseball-related duties, and assisting in sales and marketing efforts during the season.

The University of Oregon is also home to Gems catcher/outfielder Dan Pardini, and Marketing and Promotions Intern Mike D'Olivo.

The Gems are members of the West Coast League, a nine-team professional style wood-bat summer college league. The WCL features pro prospects from major conferences across the country. More than 100 WCL alums are playing affiliated professional baseball this season, and 11 ex-WCL stars have played in the Major Leagues this season.
