Klamath Falls Gems News Release
KLAMATH FALLS, OR - The Klamath Falls Gems today announced the commitment of eight players for the 2012 season, bringing the team's total commitments to 29 players. Committing during the past week were right handed pitchers Anthony Gotelli and Dustin Baisdon from Cal State-Stanislaus, outfielder Spencer Smith from Lane (OR) Community College, and three players from Oregon Tech; right handed pitchers Dylan Bedortha and Neil Emerson, and catcher Tyler Conklin.
Gotelli, 6'2", 205, enters his junior year and first year with the Warriors, transferring in from West Valley (CA) Junior College. He went 8-2 with a 2.21 ERA in 14 games (11 starts) at West Valley, pitching 61 innings with 38 strikeouts and only 18 walks.
Baisdon, a 5'10", 165 pound incoming freshman at Stanislaus, starred at Ceres (CA) High School as a pitcher and outfielder. He was recruited to Cal State Stanislaus as a pitcher.
Smith, an incoming freshman at Lane, is a right handed hitting outfielder who starred for Tigard (OR) High School, making the 2011 Pacific Conference All-League team.
Bedortha, a 6'3", 190 pound junior from Medford, OR, went 2-3, 2.27 in six starts for the Hustlin' Owls in 2011. He played summer ball for the Far West League's Southern Oregon (Medford) RiverDawgs in 2011 but his statistics were unavailable.
Emerson, a junior for the Hustlin' Owls, was signed to play for the Gems in 2011 but suffered a torn labrum just before the summer season began. He went 3-1, 4.97 in seven starts for Oregon Tech in the spring.
Conklin, a 6'0", 235 pound junior, transferred to the Oregon Tech program after two years with Green River (WA) JC. At Newport (OR) High School, Conklin was a two-time All-State catcher and helped Newport to the 4A State Championship in 2008.
"We're within about 6-8 players of completing our fall roster," Gems General Manager Chuck Heeman said. "We have a few more commitments that haven't signed yet, and we'll announce them soon. We're close to being ready to move forward toward 2012 and it's a pretty exciting time, forming up the next Gems team. Coach Hogan has done a great job in bringing in players with experience in both college and wood-bat situations. We're putting together a great mix of experienced players and good incoming freshmen who can stick with us for a couple of seasons. We're excited to watch their progress over the fall and spring seasons and we hope our fans are too."
