Klamath Falls Gems News Release

KLAMATH FALLS, OR - The Klamath Falls Gems today announced the commitment of eight players for the 2012 season, bringing the team's total commitments to 23 players. Returning from the 2011 squad are RHP Jeremy Burright and C Bo Cornish, both from the University of Portland. New to the Gems are centerfielder Nick Armenta and RHP Aaron Moore, both from the University of Portland, infielder Jorden Mossey (Nebraska) and three right handed pitchers from the University of California Santa Barbara, Dalton Douty, Griffin Paul and Brendon Shoemake. (press note - Shoemake is the proper spelling)

Burright enters his junior year and first year with the Pilots. He went 1-2 with a 3.23 ERA in 30 innings in Klamath Falls last summer. Burright was signed by Portland from Mt. Hood Junior College after pitching with the Gems last season.

Cornish, a sophomore at Portland, finished strong with the Gems during the 2011 season, ending the year fourth on the team in batting average at .247, with 11 RBI in 37 games.

Armenta enters his redshirt sophomore year at Portland after earning all WCC Freshman team honors with the Pilots in 2010. In that season he hit .263 with one home run, 11 RBI and was 6-for-9 in stolen bases, starting 26 games and playing in 46 games for the Pilots.

Moore, a redshirt freshman from Austin, Texas, was his high school's ace starting pitcher and was third in Central Texas with a 2.25 ERA for St. Stephen's High School. He also led his team in wins, strikeouts, ERA, batting average and home runs during the 2010 season.

Mossey, an incoming freshman, was an American Legion star in Cheyenne and originally signed to play at South Mountain Junior College in Arizona before signing with Nebraska. He projects to be a top-of-the-order infielder with the Gems but has also played all three outfield positions. He hit .504 with 21 doubles in Legion play this summer.

Douty, a freshman from Edison High School in Huntington Beach, California. At 6'5", 230, Douty is slated to start for UCSB as a freshman. Edison was 25-4 and ranked 25th nationally.

Paul, a freshman, went 4-0, 3.60 in 10 appearances his senior year at Newbury Park (Thousand Oaks, CA) High School.

Shoemake, also a freshman, is from La Canada (CA) High School. He saw dual duty as a pitcher and outfielder, finishing with an 8-2, 2.57 record in his senior year, and a .359 career batting average, including .417 as a senior.

Three players who previously committed, infielder Mike Bush and pitchers Ian Ekery and Mac Acker, have since decided to commit elsewhere. The 2012 West Coast League season begins in June.
