SAN DIEGO -The Golden Baseball League's San Diego team introduced their new team logo and team name, The SAN DIEGO SURF DAWGS this afternoon at a special event at Dave and Buster's in Mission Valley. The Surf Dawgs are one of eight charter teams in the new Golden Baseball League that will begin play in May 2005 at Tony Gwynn Stadium.

The winning name was submitted by first grader, Marquise Humphries in the Name the Team contest, presented by VONS. "After reviewing hundreds of entries in the Name the Team contest, presented by VONS, I think the Surf Dawgs best represents the spirit of our baseball team," said Juliana Paoli, General Manager of the San Diego Surf Dawgs. "The Surf Dawgs logo demonstrates the fun and excitement offered to local San Diego residents and the logo is accessible to all ages, reinforcing our commitment to family entertainment."

The Surf Dawgs logo was unveiled and features a dog wearing a backwards baseball cap carrying a surfboard. The team colors are powder blue, navy and yellow. The yet-to-be-named mascot is a cartoonish dog wearing a Hawaiian shirt and a board shorts. "Surf Dawgs games will have the excitement of professional baseball in a family friendly atmosphere," said Paoli.
