Yuma Scorpions News Release
Postseason tournament is six games in three days in Long Beach
(Yuma, AZ) - The Golden Baseball League announced today that tickets for the inaugural Golden Baseball League Playoffs have gone on sale at each GBL home city-including Yuma. Tickets to the tournament-to be held over Labor Day Weekend in Long Beach, California-will be sold as game-day tickets-meaning that one ticket will be good for both games that day. Ticket prices for each day are as follows: $15 for box seats, $10 for reserved seats, and $8 for general admission. No refunds will be allowed on any tickets purchased-regardless of how far a certain team lasts in the tournament. Tickets can be purchased at the Scorpions' Ticket Office at Desert Sun Stadium, or by calling the Scorpions' Ticket Office at (928) 726-9149. Tickets can also be ordered online by logging on to www.goldenbaseball.com and clicking on the âGBL Playoff Tickets' link. The Scorpions' Ticket office is open Monday through Friday from 9AM-5PM this week and next week, and will be open at 10AM Saturday, August 27th, and at noon Sunday, August 28th.
After much negotiation, the league has finalized the site of their tournament as Blair Field in Long Beach-home to the Long Beach Armada, and the tournament will be held Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, September 2nd through the 4th, with 2 games to be played each day. The tournament will include the top four teams in the league during the regular season. The division winners of the GBL's California and Arizona Division winners will grab the top two seeds of the tourney, and the last two spots (the âwild card' spots) will be filled by the two teams (after the division winners) that possess the next two best records. The tournament will be a double-elimination format, with the top seed (the division winner with the best record) taking on the #4 seed (the wild card team with the worst record) in one of the Friday games, and the #2 seed (the other division winner) and #3 seed (the wild card team with the best record) squaring off in the other Friday game. The tournament will then progress until Sunday night's âwinner-take-all' championship game. Game times on Friday and Saturday will be 3PM and 7PM. Sunday's semifinal game will start at 1PM, with the GBL Championship Game's first pitch at 5PM Sunday, September 4th.
