GBL All League Team Announced
September 20, 2006 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Orange County Flyers News Release
Well, the season may be over, and the stadium cleaned up, but we are already ramping up for the 2007 season, with dozens of season tickets already locked in for next season, and several sponsors coming back on board for a third season! After a successful season like this one, we are getting calls everyday for 2007 season seats, and new sponsors are actually calling us to sign up for promotions, giveaways, and other partnerships! It is a nice problem to have!
However, there is still a little bit of business to handle before we close the books on 2006 completely. This week, the Golden Baseball League has announced the All League Team for 2006. Below is the press release that is going out tonight...
(Fullerton, CA). The Golden Baseball League announced the All League Team for the 2006 season this week, and to no one's surprise, league MVP Peanut Willams, and Pitcher of the year, Chris Jakubauskas, were honored.
Also honored for their roles in leading the Flyers to the 2nd Half GBL Championship, and a trip to the GBL Championship Series, were Flyers closer Wes Faust, and Shortstop Bret Levier.
Williams' (from Nacogdoches, TX) season has been well documented, but he belted 20 home runs (GBL record), drove in 75 runs (tops in the league, and 4 shy of the record set last season), and hit .308 on the season. Prorated over a 162 game schedule, Peanut's numbers would have been 41 homers and 154 runs batted in. He also finished second in the gold glove race for first base (behind 2005 GBL MVP and batting champion Desi Wilson from the Chico Outlaws).
Jakubauskas (from Upland, CA) was dominant all season long, finishing with an 8-1 record, and an ERA of 3.09, which was good for 5th in the league. His win total was 2nd in the GBL. He also tied for 4th in the league with 76 strikeouts.
Faust (from Glendora, CA) was among the league leaders in saves (11) and wins (7), and his 90 plus mile per hour fast ball was one reason that the Flyers had the best record in the league (33-0) when leading after 8 innings. Once the ball was in Faust's hands, it was "game over". The Flyers also lead the league in 8th and 9th inning comebacks, partially contributing to Faust's high win total.
Levier (from Whittier, CA), known primarily for his glove, was the defensive leader for the Flyers, playing second, short, and third for Fullerton this season. He played most of his games at shortstop, however, and was one of the reasons why the Flyers defense improved dramatically from 2005. He also hit .274 and drove in 39 runs.
