Louisiana IceGators News Release

LAFAYETTE, LA - The Louisiana IceGators (14-36) returned to the Dome for the beginning of the final three game home stand against the Pensacola Ice Flyers (25-22). On Saturday the 'Gators fell to the Ice Flyers 3-1 in Pensacola. Tonight was much different for the IceGators. Louisiana dominated Pensacola winning 5-2.

Pensacola set the tempo for the first period. Pensacola outshot the IceGators 18-8 and had two streaks of five consecutive shots on goal. However, Mike Brown, IceGators goalkeeper, was up to the task. In fact, the 'Gators were able to withstand the continuous Ice Flyers attack and even take the lead. With 2:08 left in the first period C.J. Tozzo (LOU) scored 11th goal of the season with help from Tobias Karlsson (LOU).

The second period began more methodically than the first. The first shot on goal of the period was taken by Pensacola with 16:35 left in the period. The IceGators quickly responded getting four consecutive shots on goal and capitalized on two of the shots. With 15:52 remaining, Jason Hill (LOU) scored and 16 seconds later Cameron Sault (LOU) put the 'Gators up 3-0. Pensacola quickly responded outshooting the 'Gators 14-2 but Brown was up to the task. Louisiana added a fourth goal when Robert Short (LOU) scored his 3rd goal of the season with 6:21 left in the second period. Pensacola finally got on the board when Brett Liscomb (PEN) scored his 15th goal of the season with 2:43 left in the period.

Louisiana opened the final period with a 4-1 lead. The 'Gators quickly added another insurance goal. With 16:46 left in the game, Tozzo scored his second goal of the game and put the IceGators up 5-1. Six minutes later, the Ice Flyers cut into the four-goal lead when Mark Hinz (PEN) scored his 6th goal of the season.

"Tonight was a good game all around for us," answered IceGators' Head Coach Kevin Kaminski after defeating Pensacola in the Dome. "Mike [Brown] had an excellent game with over 40 saves, our defense helped limit rebound shots, and the offense capitalized. This is the type of game we need to build off of for the rest of the season."

On Wednesday, March 2, the IceGators return to the Dome for one of the last two home games. On Wednesday the 'Gators will begin the Mardi Gras celebration with a costume night against the Mississippi Surge. Then the IceGators finish the home season on Thursday night wearing special Mardi Gras jerseys. The 'Gators will be taking on the Cottonmouths of Columbus on Thursday.
