Louisiana IceGators News Release

Lafayette, LA-Louisiana went on the road to get a little revenge against the Huntsville Havoc. Just this past weekend the Havoc came into Blackham Coliseum and defeated the IceGators. Louisiana made sure the history would not repeat itself by scoring four goals in the second period and won 5-3.

The first period was a well-defended period by both teams. Huntsville's goalie Dan McWhinney saved nine shot attempts. Louisiana's goalie Adam Dekker was not going to be out done though, he added 12 saves of his own.

The second period began quickly. Huntsville opened the period scoring the first goal of the game. Andrew Schembri (HUN) scored his second goal of the season to give the lead to the Havoc. The 'Gators responded with a flurry. The first goal was scored with 6:10 left in the period by Erik Kent (LOU) tying the game at one. Nick Pernula gave the 'Gators the lead with 3:16 left in the period. Kent scored his second goal of the game with a little more than two minutes remaining. Mike Ruberto (LOU) scored a minute later to give the IceGators the 4-1 lead at the second intermission.

With 16:54 left in the third period Kent was called for roughing and thirty seconds later Pal McBrien (LOU) was called for tripping, giving the Havoc a two man advantage for a 1:30. The 'Gators were able to kill the two man advantage but with 13 seconds left in the McBrien penalty Jeff Winchester (HUN) scored to cut the lead in half. Ruberto responded with his second goal of the game, 29 seconds after Winchester's goal. Mike Carter (HUN) added a late goal to cut the lead to two.

Dave MacIsaac, Head Coach of the Louisiana IceGators, stated, "Tonight we came out and played smart," following the victory. "We were happy that [Adam] Dekker was able to keep us in the game in the first period and we knew that he deserved some support and that is what we gave him in the second period."

Louisiana goes on the road for one more game of the current road trip, visiting Columbus (March 19). The 'Gators return home for the final home game of the season against the Columbus (March 20). At the game the IceGators will crown the 2010 Miss Louisiana IceGator.
