Gary Steelheads News Release
GARY, Ind. (October 30, 2002) â One of the top scorers in Penn State University history, has agreed to terms with the Gary Steelheads for the 2002-03 season.
Joe Crispin, who also played for the Los Angeles Lakers and the Phoenix Suns, was signed Tuesday by the Steelheads.
A prolific scorer, Crispin averaged 19.8 points per game for Penn State in 2000-01 and was an All-Big Ten First Team selection and NABC All-District First Team. Last season, Crispin played in 21 games for the Lakers and Suns respectively. He then averaged 36.0 points per game for the California Surf in the ABA.
"He's a shooter. He knows how to run a team and he can make a shot," said former Phoenix Suns' Coach Scott Skiles. "He's tough. He's hungry to try to make it to the NBA, so he's a pretty good all-around player."
"Joe is a quality player and a floor leader," Steelheads' Head Coach Duane Ticknor said. "He can shoot and distribute the basketball."
The Steelheads open veterans' camp this Thursday. They open the season on Saturday, November 16 when they host the Sioux Falls Skyforce at the Genesis Convention Center at 7 p.m.
