GARY, Ind. (October 30, 2002) – Chuck Evans is reunited with a former coach.

The 5-foot-11 guard signed with the Gary Steelheads and play for one of his former coaches in Duane Ticknor. Evans played for Ticknor in Rapid City, SD with the Black Hills Posse. While with the Posse, Evans led the team to an International Basketball Association championship and a second-place finish.

"We won one championship with him and he took us pretty close another time," Steelheads' Head Coach Duane Ticknor said. "He brings that veteran leadership and toughness that helps take a team to the next level."

Evans played several seasons in Europe and this past season was named All-Polish First Team after averaging 12.2 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.7 steals for Degusta-Malfarb Ostrow.

"I want to get to the NBA and that is one of the reasons I came here," Evans said. "Also, playing for Tick, I know he will work with me to improve my game to get to the next level."

Evans finished his Mississippi State career second in all-time assists (454) and steals (165). As a senior in 1994-95, he was named to the All-Southeastern Conference Coaches' Team.

The Steelheads open veterans' camp Thursday. They open the season on Saturday, November 16 when they host the Sioux Falls Skyforce at the Genesis Convention Center at 7 p.m.
