Medford Rogues News Release
MEDFORD, OR - It was a surprisingly quiet week for Medford Rogues players with only a handful of Rogues partaking part in the action. Even though the Rogues were sparsely represented, those who did play most definitely did not disappoint by turning out with performances that have now come to be expected. Of the few who did taste a piece of the action, Victor Garcia, Jr. of Texas Pan-Am is this week's player of the week to grab his first honor of the season after coming close in previous weeks.
A freshman from Plainfield, IL, Garcia is in his first season with the Broncos and has been impressive in these early stages of his collegiate career. So far, Garcia has had 112 at bats for 29 hits and 14 runs in 34 games played for a batting average of .259. Garcia also has 15 RBI's, a team-leading 289 putouts, and 12 assists.
This past week, Garcia helped Texas Pan-Am to a 2-2 record by recording five hits, one run, and four RBI's coming from 17 at bats with a batting average of .294. Garcia also had a whopping 36 putouts and two assists to aid Texas defensively. The Broncos ended the week with an even 2-2 record.
Also putting in an outstanding performance this past week, E.J. Lopez of Pomona-Pitzer managed to aid his team to 3-0 record. Lopez grabbed four hits, five runs, and five RBI's coming from 12 at bats for an average of .333. Lopez's batting average for the week ended at .333.
New Mexico's Andre Vigil has gone from strength to strength as he recorded yet another solid set of performances for Los Lobos. Vigil had 16 at bats for three hits, two runs, and one RBI with a batting average of .188 while defensively contributing with six assists and two putouts. Teammate Jared Holley also had decent performance by contributing with eight at bats, two hits, four runs, one RBI, eight assists and one putout.
Earning honorable mention for this week is Nebraska's Tanner Lubach. Nebraska's starting catcher, Lubach helped the Huskers end the week 4-1 with four hits, one run, and two RBI's coming from 15 at bats. Lubach also contributed with 13 putouts and nine assists.
The Rogues added two players to the roster this week. RHP Joe Record (6'3", 185, freshman, UC Santa Barbara) takes the place of RHP Dillon Tate of the same school. Also added as a 10-day contract player is SS/OF Matt Cole (Grants Pass High School, Mission JC). Cole was a 2012 All-State player with the Grants Pass Cavemen and is currently hitting .327 for his Mission (CA) JC team while playing shortstop and centerfield.
